Bee Bee Developments, North Northamptonshire ___________________________
The government has ambitious growth plans for North Northamptonshire. Over 50,000 planned new homes in 20 years will significantly growth the towns of Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby, and will both drive and require a similar growth in the local economy.
Volterra worked with Bee Bee Developments to ensure that plans for the region would create a sustainable and attractive place for both new and existing residents.
Our work examined the interaction of population and employment through commuting networks, the need for services and the strength of different sectors of the economy. We used innovative approaches to understand the scale of the challenge for the area and provide realistic scenarios to guide planning policy. The analysis was grounded in employment forecasts produced in house.
Volterra assisted Bee Bee as they developed visions for the area and discussed them with important local stakeholders. We looked in detail into the logistics market, including the results of consolidation, eastward migration of manufacturing and new legislation. Road based freight has traditionally dominated, but there has been increased interest in how to adapt the industry in the face of new green thinking from government and consumers.
Bridget provided expert testimony at the Inquiry into the East Midlands regional spatial strategy (RSS), as well as at the North Northamptonshire core spatial strategy.
