North West Development Agency, The Productivity of Rail ____________________
We have recently completed work on a Productivity Rail Study for the North West Development Agency jointly with Colin Buchanan.
The study reviewed the links between rail investment and regional economic development.
Alongside producing employment projections, productivity and effective density calculations, this project involved a literature review of relevant economic strategies and key theory documents relating to the link between transport and economic success.
The project also explored the scale of likely economic impacts from a broad portfolio of rail schemes in the North West region and provided recommendations for the prioritisation of schemes and the most appropriate approach to acquiring funding.
